Internal Family Systems Therapy
Licensed therapy using Internal Family Systems now available in-person for adults in San Francisco and online for California based individuals.
What is Internal Family Systems Therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy is designed to help individuals understand and heal the different “parts” within themselves that influence thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. According to IFS, each person has a core Self that is naturally calm, compassionate, and capable of healing, but over time, life experiences and trauma can cause protective or wounded parts to take on extreme roles. Some parts may try to manage pain by controlling, avoiding, or numbing emotions, while others carry deep feelings of shame, fear, or sadness. Through IFS therapy, clients learn to access their core Self and develop a compassionate, curious relationship with these inner parts instead of judging or rejecting them.
The goal of IFS therapy is not to eliminate parts, but to bring balance and harmony to the internal system. By creating understanding between these parts, IFS helps individuals reduce inner conflict, release emotional burdens, and reconnect with a sense of wholeness. This approach can be especially effective for those struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression, or relationship challenges. Ultimately, IFS therapy empowers clients to move beyond survival patterns and live from a place of clarity, confidence, and inner peace — allowing true healing to emerge from within..
